These are just a few things that I stock up on and like to have on hand whenever I get sick. It's a mixture of things that may not the best to heal me but are nostalgic and then legitimate healthy things! Nonetheless they all make me few better. 1. Saltines: Nothing like these salty crackers, or oyster crackers are also fantastic
2. Epsom Salt Bath: So soothing, enough said. 3. Noodle Soup: Lipton or Mrs. Grass are the best options. (although I wouldn't turn down homemade or some pho) 4. Apple Cider Vinegar: New remedy I've been trying to help feel better quicker. 5. Jello: Yummy and soothing. a few faves: RESTAURANTS
There is no shortage of amazing food in the Northern VA and DC region and I would love to say I try new places all the time but the truth is I have a few favorites that I go back to over and over. So I've compiled a list of just a few of them that I've been to multiple times and would happily go back to over and over and over.....The list is a mix of fast casual to fancy/ish (truth is I'm not super fancy so none of these are insanely fancy!) 1. Cava Mezze and Cava Grill: This place rocks because they have a sit down restaurant that serves Greek tapas style and they also have a fast casual spot with the best "make your own salad bowls" ever. If there was one near me I'd have trouble not stopping everyday to get dinner. Also the "fancy" version has an amazing happy hour with fun creative and spicy drinks along with my favorite dip: crazy feta! 2. Founding Farmers: Go to brunch spot! Especially when visitors are in town, it never disappoints. Their lunch and dinner menus are also good and perfect when I'm needing comfort food. 3. Sweet Green Healthy and tasty makes this salad shop the perfect combo. I have my fave salad the kale caesar but I also love trying out the seasonal salads they put out like the roasted turkey, brussel sprouts, and sweet potato salad. The amount of times I get free salads from the rewards program says enough about how much I love this place 4. Green Pig Bistro: A little more fancy and I've been here only a few times but it's too good to leave off my list. They have a small unique menu focused on meats and some pretty awesome desserts. 5. Good Stuff Eatery: Best. Burger. Ever. (or maybe I just love the sauces?) regardless this has become my favorite place for a burger and fries anywhere and their sauce bar is #1 especially the chipotle mayo! They also have amazing shakes and monthly specials. Another month DONE! That's 3/4 of a year done (since I started in February not January). I tried to do quotes that really resonated with me this month, I started with a designer theme but that was a little tough with some of the prompts so I went with all kinds of quotes that I liked. Enjoy!
And here's a look back at my past month recaps: August, July, June, May, April, March More like vacation at Cape Cod, MA but I like "life on the Cape" more for a blog post title! Back about a month ago already I took a week off and headed up to Cape Cod with Kyle for a much needed vacation. It is gorgeous up there and the perfect balance of activities, relaxing, ocean time, and sea food. Here are my favorite things we did on vacation: kayaking through the Nauset Marsh. Beach time at the National Seashore - especially seeing all the seals! Yoga with one of my favorite teachers who used to teach at Tranquil Space. Day at Truro Vineyards and South Hollow Spirits. Pretty safe to say this was a great vacation spot and the weather was perfect, we would definitely come back and have already talked about other things we would want to check out like whale watching and walking through the dunes. Plus I just love the ocean and will never say no to a vacation that includes the beach! Some other random things from vacation that I should definitely mention: BEST. BREAKFAST. SANDWICH. EVER. from Mike and Patty's in Boston (seriously I would go back to Boston just for this sandwich). Ran the Cape Cod Canal 10k, Kyle checked Massachusetts off his list. Used AirBnB for all lodging and worked out great for us. Ate my first lobster roll, was good but not sure worth the market cost of lobsters.
Another month has come and gone and I have more completed hand lettering sketches! I did a "dictionary" theme this month, using the definition of each prompt to create my lettering and then I used a pretty similar style for each day, one that felt more natural to my style!
I even managed to fit in my daily practice while on vacation to keep my streak going. I created all of these definition sketches in one moleskin book so it's now a super fun and colorful book of definitions and I just love flipping through it. I may have to make something fun with all of these sketches eventually. And here's a look back at my past month recaps: July, June, May, April, March It's still a little hard for me to believe that I run occasionally for fun. I haven't done a ton of races and I'm not always the most consistent with running on my own but I still enjoy it and have been a runner off and on for almost 3 years. I purchased my first pair of real running shoes April 2012 (which I still use) so I'm thinking it's definitely time to get a new pair asap! Over the past 2+ years I've done a few races which I've mentioned in past posts but I just want to list all the ones so far. It really helps having a bf who is running a race in every state to bump up the number of races I've done so far. I haven't done everyone Kyle has but I do like signing up for the vacation races as a fun way to include some exercise into a trip. Race 1: Cleveland 10k 58:07, 9:21/mile Race 2: Columbus Color Run 5k untimed Race 3: North Carolina Mountain Run 3.6 miles can't find time Race 4: Portage Lakes Duathlon Race 5: Alexandria Turkey Trot 5 miles 51:58, 10:24/mile Race 6: Savannah Bridge Run 5k 31:50, 10:14/mile Race 7: Fingerlakes Glassfest 8k 50:10, 10:05/mile Race 8: Cape Cod Canal 10k 1:11:00, 11:25/mile Up next repeating the Alexandria Turkey Trot 5 miler. It's such a great way to start Thanksgiving and that means I can eat more pie...I mean turkey! We'll see if I can beat last years time, although I'm pretty inconsistent on my mile pace and I was definitely the fastest my first race a few years ago *side note I actually trained consistently for 2 months for that race.
